History

The Turner Foundation was established 30 years ago by Bill and Ann Turner, driven by a desire to make a positive impact in their hometown of Mansfield and their adopted home of Springfield. Ann, affectionately known as “Granny,” was deeply passionate about literacy and education, and her vision continues to inspire our mission.

Although Ann passed away in 2020, her legacy lives on through our ongoing efforts to support education and literacy initiatives in our communities.

William “Bill” Turner was known for his transformative leadership at Great Southern Bank. Under his guidance over the past 50 years, the bank grew from a single branch to a major institution with nearly 90 retail centers across several states. Beyond his business acumen, Bill has been a dedicated community servant, holding leadership roles in various local organizations and contributing to numerous community causes through the Turner Family Foundation.

Born in Wright County in 1932 and raised in Mansfield during the Great Depression, Turner's life is a testament to perseverance and success. His legacy continues to inspire, as he remains actively involved as chairman of the board for the bank, with his son Joe Turner serving as president and CEO.
